Motivational Phrases For Life and Success

Motivational phrases and sayings have the ability to change the way we feel and therefore act in life.

They can encourage us when motivation is lacking and inspire us when we don’t even know where to start.

What are Inspiring Phrases?

Inspirational phrases are words of encouragement or support that help us to achieve our goals and dreams. They can take the form of quotes, proclamations, poetry or even sayings from movies.

Not only do we find inspiration in famous people’s words, but also in the words and actions of our family members, friends and favorite characters.

The following motivational phrases are great for inspiring the important steps to success such as knowing what you want in life, taking action, being aware of your thoughts and beliefs and celebrating the small wins along the way.

1. What does ‘success’ look like to you?

Before we can achieve success in life, we need to know what ‘it’ is; what we’re aiming for and where we’re going.

There’s no better way to set goals than by figuring out what success actually means to us, because a goal is essentially worthless if you don’t really want to achieve it. You simply won’t be motivated to attain it in the long run and when the going gets tough.

Do you want money? Do you want health? Do you want freedom? To get fit? To write a book? Or maybe several of these things in combination.

Once we know what it is that we really, really want, we can begin to take steps to get closer to it. We can begin creating the life we dream of having.

So dream big and really define what it is you want:

“Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything.” Napoleon Hill

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.” George Bernard Shaw

“I think anything is possible if you have the mindset and the will and desire to do it and put the time in.” Roger Clemens

“I can teach anybody how to get what they want out of life. The problem is that I can’t find anybody who can tell me what they want.” Mark Twain

“When your desires are strong enough you will appear to possess superhuman powers to achieve.” Napoleon Hill

“To know what you prefer instead of humbly saying Amen to what the world tells you ought to prefer is to have kept your soul alive.” Robert Louis Stevenson

“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s the determination and commitment to unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” Mario Andretti

“The intensity of your desire governs the power with which the force is directed.” John McDonald

“The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear.” Brian Tracy

“Desire is possibility seeking expression.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.” Confucius

2. Check Your Thoughts

Our thoughts and beliefs are extremely powerful in creating our feelings and therefore the actions (or inactions) we take in our lives.

Our thoughts drive our lives.

When we want to achieve a big goal, but we can’t seem to get ourselves to take the required actions (or stop doing something) to get us there, it can always be linked back to our thoughts and beliefs on the matter.

Sometimes these are called limiting beliefs or self sabotaging.

Become aware of them and stop letting your thoughts and beliefs work on autopilot. The past is a reflection of your thoughts and actions in the past. If we want something different, we need to think differently too. What thoughts and beliefs do you need to move to that will actually align with your dreams and visions?:

“Change your thoughts and you change your world.” Norman Vincent Peale

“If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought.” Peace Pilgrim

“Once you put everything in the right perspective, even bad times can be an opportunity to refresh your appetite, your desire.” Alex Zanardi

“We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.” Swami Vivekananda

You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.” James Allen

“The game of life is a game of boomerangs. Our thoughts, deeds and words return to us sooner or later with astounding accuracy.” Florence Scovel Shinn

3. Take Action

Even if they are small steps at first, it’s important to create momentum. This is part of the process to make big changes in your life.

Once you get started, it’s much easier to keep going. Think about and write down what small steps could be taken to move you closer towards a truly fulfilling exciting future for yourself:

“The key to success is action, and the essential in action is perseverance.” Sun Yat-sen

“A dream becomes a goal when action is taken toward its achievement.” Bo Bennett

“I like to encourage people to realize that any action is a good action if it’s proactive and there is positive intent behind it.” Michael J. Fox

“Action is the foundational key to all success.” Pablo Picasso

“Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.” Thomas Jefferson

“Thinking will not overcome fear but action will.” W. Clement Stone

“An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Action expresses priorities.” Mahatma Gandhi

“The path to success is to take massive, determined action.” Tony Robbins

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” Mark Twain

“Life is like a bicycle, to keep your balance you must keep moving.” Albert Einstein

4. Celebrate The Small Wins

When we are able to stop and celebrate all the small wins along the way to success, it makes the journey so much more flow-based and enjoyable.

Because, all those small wins add up to huge successes.

The more we can stop, breathe and enjoy the small moments of success along the way (no matter how big or small they may seem to others) – the more likely we will be able to stick with our plan.

“Life is too short not to celebrate nice moments!” Jurgen Klopp

“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” Oprah Winfrey

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.” Denis Waitley

“I don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness – it’s right in front of me if I’m paying attention and practicing gratitude.” Brene Brown

“Gratitude is one of the strongest and most transformative states of being. It shifts your perspective from lack to abundance and allows you to focus on the good in your life, which in turn pulls more goodness into your reality.” Jen Sincero
